NYT Notable Books 2019: 31/100
One thing about the books from the NYT list is that I add them to my TBR and pick them up without reading what they're about. In this case, it's probably good I didn't since I think I would have been left disappointed. The synopsis makes the book seem really great, but it kind of fell flat. The idea that the community was tight-knit kind of worked, but new characters were introduced every chapter, and sometimes it took a while to figure out how they were connected to other characters (if at all). I thought things were looking up towards the end, but then the book ended and I really didn't love how Phillips ended the book. I think there was a lot of potential here but the execution just didn't work.

Moderate: Kidnapping
