I'm a Stranger Here Myself: Notes on Returning to America After 20 Years by Bill Bryson

4.0

All the chapters are the same length, which is useful for the way I enjoyed this is 2024- as a readaloud with my adolescent son to give him a little tour of America in the late 90s, the America of my youth. Obviously many of the essays are quite dated now but they are SO dated as to be historical. They are also pretty hit or miss. Some are super funny, some are meh and some are unpleasantly bitter. On the whole, though, I would recommend it for that specific use case, or just for a person feeling a little nostalgic.
