Take Me Home Tonight by Erika Kelly

*LOUD SIGH*

So. This book. I had a lot of trouble rating this book. Like I whipped through it: it was an easy, fast read, the pacing was great, the writing was decent enough, I guess, and the story was... interesting. I mean, don't get me wrong, I have a soft spot for the brooding musician types in books, so this was right up my alley in that regard. PLUS I got this book FOR FREE as a prize from work, so that was cool. Buuuuut. I don't know. Something didn't quite click for me I guess?

I mean the chemistry between the characters was there, and it was good, and I liked them both well enough, kind of, but something wasn't quite right for me. Like the longer I read, the less interested I was in their story and their drama.

Drama Llama

THERE IT IS! I think it was too much drama! Like ugghhhhh there comes a point in romance books where this will be a conflict and then all these terrible things and a misunderstanding and if you read romance, you get my drift. And like, it was just too annoying for me in this book. But at the same time, it was different, it was interesting, and overall I thought it was a good premise for a book. I guess I just didn't quite get there with Mimi and Calix.

And honestly, this book started out as like a 3.5-4 star book for me. It just went downhill somewhere in there and I got annoyed. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood. Maybe on another day or at another time I would rate this differently. Maybe it would get 3 stars. But not today. So I guess what I am trying to say is 2.5 stars rounded down because the drama llama made one too many appearances.
