I knew this was going to be a hard read. I tried to skip it, I really did. But I just couldn't go on to the final book not knowing what led Billy and Claire to seemingly hate each other.
This was as nerve-wracking and heartbreaking as I thought it would be. For Scarlett. For Billy. Even for Cletus. I had a lump of hesitant anticapation through the majority of it, waiting for the axe to fall, waiting for what I already vaguely knew was coming; violence at the hands of horrible, unfeeling men, and the heartache of two powerless kids, who had all their innocent choices stolen from them.
It WAS tough to read, but I think it was necessary in order to better understand why these characters grew up to be the people that they are. Even to gain a better understanding of the choices Jethro made, then and later.
And now, I am so ready to learn how Billy & Scarlet finally- after nearly 20 years- learn to forgive each other, and get their own HEA in the final book in this awesome series!.
