This is exactly the type of book I love--an intimate portrait of a family over time. The characters and relationships are so tender, and the way they grow and evolve feels so textured. I couldn't put this down as I got wrapped up in the daily travails of everyone in the family, not least of which Mika who we follow most closely. Some of the stories are heartbreaking, others truly uplifting--and so too isn't family the full range as represented here. This is perfect for anyone looking for the intimacy and emotional depth of Deesha Philyaw's The Secret Lives of Church Ladies and who isn't sure where to find it next. Dameron's writing is gorgeous and un-put-downable.
