Real-life accounts of the problems facing women in China, recounted through a series of personal stories directed through Xinran. There are unfortunately far too many of a sexually abusive nature, but this is a problem not of the book, but unfortunately society and in particular men. I have already in the past discussed the tourist nature of those reporting on social ills of others, see [b:The People of the Abyss|113250|The People of the Abyss|Jack London|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1349063625s/113250.jpg|1036883] but this book has a slight more honesty and humility about its approach to its subject matter.
