My one sentence endorsement of this book: it made me cry happy tears. It is an ode to queer history and the queer community. And it is also just a fun, exciting read. For starters, I love Tennessee! He is a fantastic main character, with drive, charisma, and nuance. He cares so much about being queer and the queer community, and showing that queer people have a history. His passion becomes yours as you read this book. Also, he has complex relationships and grows through them. His relationships with his father and his ex show that he is still trying to find how he fits into the world, especially when people want to label his role. His relationships with his mother and his boss show his deep love and loyalty. And his relationships with the people he meets during his adventure show how kind and brave he is. Lastly, I love his habit of making lists to process unexpected situations. It was so relatable to me and also added good humor to the story. The story's plot is very action adventure the entire way. It has action and danger, puzzles and tricks, and more. There was never a dull moment. When the characters weren't in the middle of an ancient tomb dodging booby traps, they were having intense, often emotional, conversations that allowed for character and relationship development. As for the end, it was so satisfying, and that speech was everything. I highly recommend this book and can't wait for more Tennessee Russo!
