Reading this book exploring the mind of a transgender woman and a detransitioned man... as a cis woman... was a really unique perspective. The view of my gender from their perspective was eye opening. There was a lot of sadness in this book. Not in your face sudden sadness like the death of a main character, but instead an underlying tone of sadness that just carried you through. For that reason I thought about abandoning the book a few times. It was a book club pick, and I am looking forward to the discussion, so that made me keep going. I also felt like I was learning something, and even when that something makes me feel sad, learning something from a fiction novel is always inspiration to go on for me. I've never had a close friendship with a transgender woman, but I do feel like this book gave me some perspective in the event that one day I do.
