After reading and loving the Six of Crows duology, I decided I wanted to read everything Leigh Bardugo has written, starting with the rest of the novels in the Grishaverse.
I think Bardugo hadn't quite yet hit her stride with this one. It was a very typical YA book about a scrawny teenager discovering she has powers that could save the world, and a dark, mysterious old man who looks young taking an interest in her.
And I ate it up. Sure, it wasn't perfection, but it was entertaining and I cared about what happened to Alina and Mal. Of course I'll be continuing the trilogy.
