Dark Corners by Megan Goldin

5.0

Listen up audiobook readers if you love books with multiple narrators + ambience this should be your next read. The audiobook is FAN-FRICKING-TASTIC! I think the story is equally good. Dark Corners follows the return of Rachel Krall, a true crime podcaster who is on the hunt for a popular influencer who disappeared after visiting a suspected serial killer who’s behind bars. Rachel is working with the FBI to find her before the suspect is released from jail in just two days after serving his 6 years sentence. This book doesn’t get as dark as The Night Swim did, but I was still hooked right from the start. I think this is a good book for beginners and veterans of the genres, readers who like standalones (yes I think it can be read without reading The Night Swim, but why miss out?) or series, readers who like to be the sleuth and readers who don’t. I loved the podcast elements to the story and although I know some readers who do not like those elements I would say to still TRY it. There’s no on page extra gruesome scenes, no on page killings, etc. There’s no smut, but there is a fun fade to black moment. I will say I don’t think this book is breaking the mold or doing something super unique, but I thoroughly enjoyed the reading experience and for that it gets high praise.
