I was hesitant going into this book as I wasn’t sure to expect as I usually do going into a book with a new-to-me author, especially non-fiction. I especially enjoyed Allie’s easy to read writing style and the way she laid out her arguments in the book. This topic is something that I had been growing in slowly over time. Not purposefully, but I have found myself longing for opportunities to look outside of myself, and I related to the book, because it definitely gave me more of a why that longing was growing.

Allie lists out 5 of the myths/lies that our culture has told us that have even creeped into our churches and Christian communities. I related to these and have even fallen prey to many of them over the period of my life. I learned a lot from each of the sections. There were definitely some great Bible references and Allie even encourages the readers to study the Word on their own and let God define the truth they believe. I do wish there were more Biblical references or breaking down of the references, however, there was a lot there and I liked the way she broke down the information.

I got my copy from the library, but this is a book that I might get a copy of to review when I feel the lies trying to sneak back in. It is a very subtle shift and I think it is everywhere in our culture so it is hard to avoid, especially as there are some of these messages in Christian communities. While I think that this book was very informative on the topic, it definitely wasn’t an end all. I believe it was a very great start and overview, and I look forward to reading more books on the topic!
