Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World
by Cal Newport
challenging
informative
slow-paced
This is a book I feel conflicted on regarding my takeaways and general thoughts.
On the one hand, this is an insightful study into the importance of deep work and strategies you can apply to get more of the important work done, and minimise the work of lesser importance.
On the other, the book feels slow and laborious to read due to each point being incessantly backed up with study after study trying to support it, and I’m not unfamiliar with such depth in my own studies in my Masters, but this felt like overkill.
It’s a worthwhile read if you don’t feel like you’re working near your capacity, but also isn’t something I’d be rushing around to recommend.
