The Survivor by Vince Flynn, Kyle Mills

5.0

The Survivor picks up Mitch Rapp's story where the previous book "The Last Man" ended. Whilst each action-packed book could work as a standalone, personally I think this series is too good to miss out on and would recommend reading it sequentially. 13 books may be a bit daunting but they're all worth it! If you decide against it, all the basic backstory you need is included so not to worry.

The CIA is under threat by previous leaks as well as a new mole and the question is - is a traitor influencing the CIA from beyond the grave, and even dead, how much damage can he do? Mitch is sent searching for answers, with every asset in the CIA under serious threat if the integrity of the organisation can't be protected.

Vince Flynn's death 2 years ago was upsetting for all his fans, and I was very apprehensive about his book being finished by someone else. Kyle Mills had a lot to live up to, and I think that he did succeed to carry that torch to the end. I have read all of the Mitch Rapp series, and there was no noticeable disparity for me between the two authors. Of course with 13 books full of backstory there was a lot of reference material!

The Survivor has great pacing, oodles of action and a flowing, gripping storyline with all the hallmarks of quality Mitch Rapp book and a top political thriller. This is honestly one of my favourites of the Mitch Rapp series; so if you're apprehensive about Vince being gone, don't be - his legacy lives on.

My thanks go to the publishers, Simon and Schuster, as well as NetGalley, for providing me with an Advanced Review Copy. And of course, to Kyle Mills, for stepping into such big shoes.
