Scythe by Neal Shusterman

5.0

This book had me hooked from the start with the amazing worldbuilding and concept of how people can only be killed by Scythes.

I love the politics and how the Scythedom is its own entity with its own rules (and dare I say corruption), especially how it’s reflected in the Scythes with those who are only it for the fame and those that do it because it’s right for society.

The relationships between Citra and Rowan was so well done from the rocky and competitive start to the friendship and dare I say fleeting romance to the coldness and hope, they both developed so much together and separately especially after the loss they suffered. Not only that but how by the end of the book they are both so different from how their training was dealt to them.

Reading the journal entries from the apprentices to the Scythes and how they differ vastly between each person and how it reflects how they carry themselves was so good and I loved that little extra.
