The Christmas Pig by J.K. Rowling

5.0

The story follows a nice boy named Jack, who loves his stuffed pig called DP (Dur Pig, originally The Pig). It is the most valuable possessions he has that seems to understand his feelings and they are always together, anywhere. When Jack’s mother and him moved to a new place, he went to this new school and befriended a sweet girl he never thought would be his evil step sister who always gets her way in everything. When Jack’s mother ended up moving in together, he is forced to accept Holly, his step sister. But Holly is rebellious and wants her dad only for herself. One day, Holly threw DP outside the car window and Jack is no longer that nice little boy he is as he cares nothing more than DP. Holly feel guilty and bought a new Christmas Pig but its not the same with DP that has such sentimental values for Jack.

That night, the new Christmas Pig became alive together with all the Things. He told Jack, there’s a way to get DP back, but they have to ventured all the way to the Land of The Lost, ruled by the evil Loser, and populated with all Things that are lost. A quest in retrieving his best friend begins. The last ending is a very heartwarming one. Kids gonna love this enchanting story.

This book is both plot and characters driven. It brings the theme of love and hope. If there’s an author who can always gets into my head for writing a book with such details using her vivid imaginations, that’s going to be J.K. Rowling. and Jim Field’s stunning illustrations perfected the whole book. I have a hunch, an adaptation is coming!

*There’s a review by a mother on Goodreads saying that she bought this book as a Christmas gift for her children, and now she needs to hide it until Christmas and pretend she haven’t read it
