All of Us Villains by C.L. Herman, Amanda Foody

Wow! This book is definitely a top binge read of 2022 for me.

The book centers around a tournament that pops up every 20 years. One “champion” is sent from each of the 7 powerful families. The champions are meant to compete to the death, and oh yeah, they’re all teens. The winning family gets to control the most powerful magic, and really, control the entire town because of their power. But this tournament is different because someone wrote a tell-all book about the champions and their families. Now all the secrets and weaknesses of each family is exposed and every champion knows more than they should.

OK SO
I really liked that the champions aren’t just these know-all beings. They need support from curse makers and spell makers to equip them for their tournament. It adds this freshness to stories with magic because usually the people with magic have total control over it.

The story is also told from different points of views, with lines from the tell-all book as an intro to each chapter. I love that we get to “read” the tell all book as we read the actual book. I was hoping for a little more tea ☕️ with the book, so that was my main disappointment.

I ended up rooting for characters I didn’t expect and I was shocked by the actions of other characters I thought I knew. The ending was insane and tragic and there are so many loose ends! So I can’t wait to read the sequel.

I definitely was sucked into this book and the characters’ struggles within themselves, with their families, and with the tournament.
