Hunter x Hunter, Vol. 33: Threats by Yoshihiro Togashi

4.0

Contrary to the other reviews, I actually like that this volume is text heavy.

This is what sets Hunter x Hunter apart from other mangas or animes. Yoshihiro Togashi takes his time to build story arcs and develop characters either by wall of texts thoughts and dialogues or detailed world building to match with the jaw-dropping payoffs. I perfectly understand why some are disappointed and bored but I'd take careful world building + a great payoff than good fight scenes + mediocre outcome any day.

The volume is basically an arc introduction so the information dump is a bit expected. It is pretty interesting and it opens up a lot of possibilities for main characters specifically Kurapika, Leorio, and Ging (of which I'm excited about since his skill(s)/ability(ies) is(are) still a mystery).

What takes one star away are the character introductions. I feel like there is a better narrative approach given that there are LOTS of new faces on this volume. It would help to match the info dumps with proper spaces so it doesn't feel like all these details are condensed in one volume or chapter.

The good still outweighs the bad and I'm still excited to carry on with this manga.
