Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
5.0
SOOOOOO many feelings. The first book I read by Taylor Jenkins Reid was The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and that book blew me away. And because of how brilliant I thought that book was, I just knew Daisy Jones & The Six was going to be just as incredible. And it was. It absolutely was.
Reading this book about this fictional band was fun and exciting, and you definitely feel like the band is made of real people. I had to remind myself this band is not real, these people do not exist, there is no back catalog of music you can listen to. That was a real let down.
I've never read a book that was in an interview format from beginning to end, but I had no issue with the flow of it. I rather enjoyed it and it seemed fitting for the story.
I liked all of the characters and felt a connection to each of them for one reason or another. But I most adored Camila and Billy. I loved their journey of love, marriage, and parenting. And I loved the lessons on trust, communication, and forgiveness. I found it to be really powerful.
"If I've given the impression that trust is easy-with your spouse, with your kids, with anybody you care about-if I've made it seem like it's easy to do...then I've misspoken. It's the hardest thing I've ever had to do. But you have nothing without it. Nothing meaningful at all. That's why I choose to do it. Over and over and over. Even when it bit me in the ass. And I will keep choosing it until the day I die." - Camila Dunne.
"I had hurt Camila. God knows I had. But loving somebody isn't perfection and good times and laughing and making love. Love is forgiveness and patience and faith and every once in a while, it's a gut punch. That's why it's a dangerous thing, when you go loving the wrong person. When you love somebody who doesn't deserve it. You have to be with someone that deserves your faith and you have to be deserving of someone else's. It's sacred." - Billy Dunne
This book was such a great story. I was engaged from beginning to end, and I've thought about this book in the weeks and months after finishing it. Daisy Jones & The Six is definitely one of the best books I've read in 2019.
