A common thread among the books I’ve read from Liu Cixin so far is that there is a lot of plot driven storytelling, seemingly with the goal of following a portrayal of speculative fictional events as a collective development rather than an individual struggle. This is something I enjoy about Liu’s books, though this one had a bit less character development than the Three Body trilogy.
Regardless, this book was overall pretty enjoyable, but there were some major plot leaps near the end. For example, there was no explanation for howchildren made it from the Great Migration to the once again conquering the cosmos as did their parental counterparts. The massive plot leap made the end a little hard to believe considering the children’s lack of technical training with advanced vehicles such as aircraft as shown throughout the book. Nonetheless, the book provides an enjoyable read for a speculative narrative for how children would organize themselves and inherit the world in a future without adults.
