I've never read anything by J.A. Jance, and I like mysteries, so I thought I'd give her books a try. She's very popular and prolific. This is one of a series. I didn't really like the main character. He's obnoxious, without many redeeming features. Significant things had obviously happened to him in previous books, but they weren't explained very well, so a reader who hadn't read books leading up to this one is left wondering. The prose is not inspiring, and the mystery wasn't hard to solve. This was written in 1987, so it's possible the books have improved. I may try a newer one before giving up entirely.
