The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu

3.0

Even though I knew this book was about aliens, as soon as the aliens were revealed I rolled my eyes. So please take my review with a grain of salt if you are the type to enjoy alien stories.

I was drawn in by the early chapters documenting Ye Wenjie's experiences during the cultural revolution, and I very much enjoyed the ridiculousness and humor of the Three Body chapters (actually not sure if they were supposed to be humorous, but I took them as such). However, as the alien science began to be explained in depth and the Earth faction politics emerged, I became fairly disinterested. The human's motives were shallow and I did not understand them, and the science became either too magical or too physics heavy for me to understand: the result being that I was bored by the hand-waviness that crushed, rather than revealed, the mystery.
