Just time to record a couple of words. This is a tremendous piece of metafiction, with the author using the tale Victorian lovers to comment on our own values. The explicit use of a modern day narrator, who at one point appears to be in the tale itself, and the three possible endings given, all contribute to the overall themes of the novel. Magnificent and rewarding.
