The second volume of “Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play”, entitled “Oracle”, was a mixed bag. On one hand the drama, humor, and stakes were really solid. The time difference is a wonderful ticking clock and I loved both the mirror subplot and the idea that Miaka must travel between worlds if she is to stay safe and healthy. However ultimately a lot of these stakes get undercut by how easily they get solved and dismissed. It’s earned me continuing the series, but some glaring problems keep it from a 4/5.
