Big Stick Energy by Hayden Hall

So...we have another typical Hayden college story in this book, and I loved it, like all his others!

Maybe I didn't love it as much as the first two, but still, few write the enemies to lovers trope like him, creating that tension between the MCs that we know when it breaks out, it's going to be epic. And boy was it epic!

Our MCs can't stand each other since the day they met two years ago. And they couldn't be more different. Where Caden was disciplined, with the sole goal of becoming captain after assisting Riley during his captaincy, Becket did nothing but fool around, being late to practice, etc. So when Coach chooses Becket as captain, it was a big surprise, even for Becket, who also aspired to be captain but like everyone else, he assumed that Caden would be the one chosen.

This sends Caden into a deep spiral, full of anger and frustration for having wasted two years focused only on the team, without also giving himself the opportunity to explore his sexuality or enjoy life in college, something that he intends to rectify without further delay. Something that bothers Becket terribly.

Becket seems like someone who is overly arrogant and cocky, but internally, he is someone a bit insecure who believes that he needs to prove to himself and to others that he is capable of succeeding on his own, and not because he is the nephew of another successful NHL player. It's something that weighs on him, and that Caden is always shoving in his face.

The tension between the two of them reaches such a point that their teammates give them an ultimatum, either they start working together, or one or both of them must leave the team. So they try, and try (Ok, maybe don't try too much lol). But this, instead of relieving said tension only fuels it, until it ends up exploding in a way that neither of them expected. Because disguised as anger and disgust, there was a hidden attraction that they feel for each other and that neither of them wanted to see. Caden because he simply hat*d Becket, and Becket, because he had simply never been attracted to another man, and he didn't know how to recognize the signs.

From there, they begin a relationship where they really get to know each other, but that they hide from everyone. Especially since Becket felt like he could lose everything if he came out. Until he realized that Caden was worth more than everything else and that he had to take a chance or he would end up losing him instead.

This was an intense story, with strong emotions. These MCs feel it all deeply, the anger, the disgust, the chemistry and the love that finally grows between them. Well-written, fast-paced, it's entertaining, the steamy scenes between Caden and Becket are really HOT, and the moments where they allow themselves to be vulnerable and show their feelings and support each other, are also felt throughout the pages.

I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
