Book Scavenger by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman

4.0

There was so much to love about this middle grade novel. Our whole family enjoyed listening to the audiobook, and my son with a prominent cowlick has now named it Steve Jr., inspired by James's name for his. What kept this book at 4 stars instead of 5 for me: some plot points were reiterated/reviewed more times than necessary but in other places the plot had some gaps (what happens with Mr. Quisling?), and the gun violence (both actual and threatened) felt gratuitous -- you can have intrigue/suspense/danger without actual guns.
