What a masterclass of an anthology: though there were definitely some stories that I preferred, each author had a certain weight to their prose. Speculative fiction is anchored in modern anxieties so the pattern of dystopic and hyper-capitalist/patriarchal/colonial settings was not surprising, but the breaths of folklore, magical reality, and moments of genuine, visceral heart really got me hooked.

I really enjoyed the defined, if not experimental, prose that each author brought to the anthology, and find it meaningful that Black British perspectives explore the questions, and redefine ideas, of (de)humanisation inherent to the genre.
