I've read this right after "Stone Butch Blues" and I didn't expect there'd be this big of a difference between them! While both writers are trans-masculine and the books follow the same decades in the US (60s to late 80s/early 90s), this book seemed to have a way more cheerful vibe to it, despite Lou dying of AIDS in the end . Granted, Leslie Feinberg was a trans masc with a butch lesbian identity, while Lou was a gay trans man (heads up for A LOT of gay sex in these diaries), so in that regard, they frequented quite different queer circles. Nevertheless, I didn't expect that the horrible homophobia and police violence (the reason I struggled to get to the end of Stone Butch Blues) would be completely absent in Lou's diaries.
Anyhoo, this is a must read for any queer person - Lou was and remains to this day a trans gay icon!
