Shine by Jessica Jung

3.0

Going into this book, I was expecting almost a "pure-escapist" modern romance and drama-filled story giving some insight into the K-pop world.

After reading it, I was drawn into the overarching theme of letting yourself shine (yes I am namedropping the title
However, the book really suffered from being too fast-paced and jumping from an unrealistic scene to an unrealistic scene with only a small paragraph of explanation. A lot of things felt very forced or unneeded in the story as well. The main character was also just meh

But overall, it was still a nice teen fiction book to read that definitely does overdo its cheesiness and use of tropes but I'm a sucker for those things so what can I say

oh yeah one last thing - you should go into the book knowing that it's a series with a sequel because the second half of the book kinda raises more questions than answers and ends a bit abruptly. can't wait for the sequel tho
