Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

slow-paced

3.0

Man marries teenage girl young enough to be his daughter, specifically because she is a "child" and inexperienced, then bullies and mocks her relentlessly, showing her no affection or kindness until it suits him. She is as infatuated and delulu as can be expected of a girl her age being taken advantage of. There are several allusions to blackface, racist language, and gross mistreatment of a character with special needs. Oh, and incest.
