I had to think about it a lot when I finished it.
The most prevalent feeling was disappointment and annoyance: I absolutely despised Arsim as a human being and I couldn't find the point of this book.
Then I realised there was no point to find.
It is voluntarily focused on losing one's bearings. The characters all lose their certainties at one point or another and repeatedly.
They all act badly and shamefully and desperately. Trying to find themselves or following the idea they have of themselves.
Even if it's the story about the passion of two men and the impossibility to be together due to gender and nationality, the queer part is just another narrative expedient; it is used as an anchor in a world that is disintegrating.
The writing is simple but very evocative, I felt distraught for most of the book.
