okay THIS IS THE BEST ONE! these just kept getting better and better; book one i was disappointed by and i hoped book two would improve and thankfully, it was only up from there. each book became increasingly more romantic and tender and yearning. vansh and naina were so obsessed with each other and it felt like this book finally reached the perfect balance of romance and family drama. also really loved the subplot for sid and esha, their story was so pure and sweet and it was a lovely nod to the frank and jane subplot in emma.

speaking of, this did a really great job of blending emma and knightley’s characters into both of the leads, as well as a lot of the strongholds of the original story being incorporated into a modern plot. harriet becomes a homeless man named hari that vansh takes under his care; naina’s loving but awkward mother fills the spot of emma’s hypochondriac father; and the persona of jane fairfax is split between esha and her secret scandalous romance and india dashwood being naina’s rival.

this was a lot more overtly romantic and sexy than the others and i genuinely think sonali dev needs to lean into that more because she writes the romance SO WELL!! she does the family drama very well too, but you go into these expecting romance and sometimes the balance is not there.

anyway, turned out to be a great series. what a fun modern twist on austen!
