This book is a reflection on the stages of grief and acceptance as the main character's death is a very near reality. It takes the reader through the raw emotion and loneliness of a man who has lived a life of high status and fortune, but in the end he realizes that death comes even for Ivan Ilyich. This story emphasizes faith in God and shows that living a life of holiness is the thing that matters when someone is on their death bed.
