Four Seconds to Lose by K.A. Tucker

Istyria book blog ~ B's world of enchanted books

K.A. Tucker has this way of sucking me into her stories and crawling under my skin every single time. This one was no different. It didn't let me go and it took all the willpower I have to put the book down so I could go to sleep at 2am. And I was still awake in bed for at least half an hour, thinking about this book. And it happens every. Single. Time.

Four Seconds To Lose is Cain's story. We've met Cain, the owner of the strip club Penny's, before in the other two books in the series. He's not some sleazy guy, he's very protective over his girls and wants to get them out of this business. He takes care of them. So when Charlie Rourke walks into his office looking for a job, looking an awful lot like someone from his past, he helps her. And while he normally doesn't have any trouble abiding his rule not to sleep with the staff, Charlie challenges him and it's been a long time since anyone ever did. But Charlie has a past of her own. A past that's still not completely in the past. She doesn't have the luxury of falling for someone. Luckily for us, fate has something else in store for her then she imagined.

I've been so eager to read Cain's story ever since I read Ten Tiny Breaths for the first time. I've always liked him. He may be the owner of a strip club, but he's different from the usual type that has the same job. He's very protective of his girls and wants to get them out of the business. He wants to save them. Of course it's because of something that happened in his past, something he doesn't want to happen again. So he closes himself off. He's very private and doesn't want to fall in love anymore. But he's such a great guy and even though he has a past himself, I still think he deserves love in his life. He's paid for what he has done a million times over and I can't help but love that man. He's caring, protective, sweet and oh, so sexy. Oh, and I loved the bromance he had with his bouncers Ben and Nate.

The story was a bit darker then the other two, but what can you expect if you deal with drugs, the sex trade, abusive families,... It's also a lot more explicit in the sex scenes. Not that you hear me complaining, but if you don't like that, this may not be the book for you. Then again, if you love this author, I do highly recommend to suck it up and just read it. The romance is worth it. Charlie and Cain have so much chemistry and I was rooting for them all the way. I loved Charlie and I felt for her, but Cain has to be my favorite. Sorry!

It was also great to see the others again. Trent, Storm, Kacey, Livie, Dan, Nate, Ben,... All those guys come back and I loved knowing what was up in their lives. Some found the ending a bit anti-climatic and I get why they feel that way, but I didn't. I loved the whole book. K.A. Tucker is an amazing writer. Her characters have so much depth and her writing is flawless. Yep, she's on my autobuy list. Don't really know why she wasn't on it already. That's blasphemy. Almost.

If you enjoyed Ten Tiny Breaths and One Tiny Lie, I highly recommend reading Four Seconds To Lose too! It has the same K.A. Tucker brilliance and awesomeness, though a bit darker than the previous two books. Amazing. Amazing. AH. MAY. ZING. Sorry it took me way too damn long to read it.
