I don't consume a lot of scary media. Case in point, I had to add a 'horror' shelf just now after finishing this book.
It's a terrifying present-day tale about a world slowly going mad. There is something happening on Earth. And when a person sees it -- whatever it is -- they become crazed and violent, and ultimately take their own life. No one knows what IT is, because once you see it, you go mad. People are boarding up windows, refusing to go outdoors, relying on ever-dwindling tv and radio journalists to report the news. Eventually, none are left.
This is the story of Malorie, who lives alone in an abandoned house with two very young children. It's the story of how she came to be there, alone, with two children. And it's the story of how they must journey down river to a safe house, blindfolded, in the hopes that there is something better there.
It's a creepy, riveting tale and I tore through quickly.
