This was a very slow read for me. At first I assumed it was the book, but as I kept putting it aside, I found myself thinking about the tiny bit I read. I realized about half way through that it wasn’t the book. It is almost flawlessly written, and I enjoyed the story despite the topics begin tough to read. I realized it’s just the parallels to Nazi Germany and the current US regime too much to take. So many words stood out to me as I read, and I found myself putting the book down as it’s tragic enough to read historical fiction, but even tougher to connect to the current state of your government. If I had an actual list of the best books I ever read, this would be on it. It was sad, tragic, and yet hopeful and inspiring.
