Second read through, knowing what to expect, helped enormously.

I have FEELINGS about this book. Great conflicting feelings.

Pros: hooray for representation in books! All sorts of families and people are represented in this book and it makes me so happy! The illustrations are simple and gorgeous. This story did evoke big feelings in me.

Cons: extraordinary events happen in this book but are handled in a very ordinary manner. I’m not sure I’m okay with that. I needed....more, I guess, to deal with my feelings. It’s almost, almost, like it was blown off. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t the author’s intent, but it just wasn’t enough for this empathic, care taking heart.
