Please, please please! For Once, just once! Don't end like how it's supposed to endππ
I should've known betterππππ
This was my "a book I am expecting it to be 5 stars"
and it didn't hit
because it was 100000000000000000000000/5 πππππ
I knew I was going to love this book even if it's the worst book ever written ππππ because I am in a ML Wang cult. whatever she writes, I will love
Add to that all the AoT references!!!!!!! Oh yeah! Wang is definitely a fan.
OK, enough fangirling
I legit do not know how this book got a traditional publishing deal!? the themes inside are a direct slap to colonialism, cultural theft, the patriarchy, but most importantly Zionism
But we have a hand in making the Kwen a savage place!" Sciona burst out. "The conditions beyond the barrier....They're conditions our magic created." She thought of scarred Carra clutching that knife ready to kill her. What had to happen to a little girl to turn her into that? what sort of horrors and indignities did she have to endure?
"Our magic creates civilization. Where the magic itself comes from is out of our hands. That is God's will"...."By remembering that GOD GAVE HIS CHOSEN MAGES access to the Otherrealm for a reason. He meant for us to use it."
In most of these types of books, the main character almost borders on holiness. They are perfect in everything and the epitome of good.
This is not the case here at all
Sciona is flawed but not evil
good but has the ability to do bad.
It is her progress and reaction to learning the truth that draws us to her
all while fighting the sexism of her society
I won't go more
just the fact that this book ate 2 annotation tabs and that I tabbed side, above and corner is enough to tell you how brilliant it was
