The Hundred Years' War on Palestine by Rashid Khalidi

informative

5.0

a must read

this book provides necessary historical information and context about the genocide on P@lestine. Khalidi takes us back to 1917, detailing key events, including the Nakba, the 1st and 2nd Intifada, and many others, which have shaped the present experiences in Gaza, in P@lestine. i found it to be a really accessible read but also think it could be helpful to have basic understanding of the relationship between P@lestine and Israel prior to reading

some important takeaways:
  • the united states government is doing whatever it takes to protect itself, which does not mean its citizens, but its own self-interests, which includes not being prosecuted for war crimes. therefore, they must say the use of their weapons is for “self-defense.” otherwise, they would be admitting that there has been a violation of the Arms Export Control Act of 1976
  • approaches to furthering the understanding of Palestine as summarized by Khalidi:
    1. establishing the colonial nature of the conflict
    2. highlighting the imbalance between P@lestinians and Israel
    3. amplifying the issue of inequality
    • these are all things we have seen happening in the present, and are approaches we can take in what we amplify, how we talk about the conflict, and how we continue moving forward towards a free P@lestine
