My second contemporary romance read I’ve chosen the very much hyped book from bookstagram.

Olive a grad student at Stanford enters into a fake relationship with Dr Adam Carlsen, the arrogant ass professor. Why you ask? As a far fetched plan to convince her friend to date someone else and to convince the university to release Adam’s grant funds.
And thus the classic fake dating trope unfolds.

This was a fun little book but I did find Olives over thinking annoying and her wild on the spot decision making unrealistic. It was great to see a woman working in STEM represented as someone intelligent and doing great work in her field.

One issue I had was the gaslighting. It has to be my pet hate and I didn’t really think it fit the way Olives character has been built up. Yes she was insecure but she was so feisty it just seemed not quite right that she would be a victim and fall for this.

Other trigger warnings include cancer, sexual assault and mental abuse and some 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ spice (18+ recommendation)

All in all a fun and easy read (or listen in this case).
