Assassination Vacation
by Sarah Vowell
I wanted to like this book a lot more than I did. Towards the end I felt like I was really pushing myself to read it so I could finish it. I am a huge history fan and a huge Lincoln fan. This book seemed right up my alley. When she was comparing what happened a century ago to events of the Bush administration, it felt really strained. It was as if she was really trying hard to connect the events and wanted to lead you there by the nose. I would have been content reading the book and learning the history without the "Look at how awful Bush is" commentary. And I'm not a Bush fan. There were more than a few moments where I actually laughed out loud. And her nephew Owen sounds like a riot and a great traveling companion.
