I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh

5.0

An emotionally charged thriller with edge-of-your-seat suspense.

Clare Mackintosh's I Let You Go begins with a painful tragedy and spirals into a tale of suspense and heartache. What sets this novel apart is its ingenious structure. The first half makes you believe that you understand the story, only to shatter those assumptions with a jaw-dropping twist midway through. The author skillfully keeps you guessing, crafting a story that is as much about the psychological impact of grief as it is about uncovering the truth.

Overall, I have to give it 4.5 stars. I absolutely loved the book but the coincidence that binds the whole story together was a bit convenient. The story is masterfully written in first-, second-, and third-person.

A few of my favorite quotes:
'My steps feel lighter now and I realize it’s because I’m running toward something, and not away from it.'
'Such a small impact on the world, yet the very centre of my own.'
'I wonder briefly if I have become immune to physical pain: if the human body is not designed to handle both physical and emotional hurt.'
