Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Parts One and Two by John Tiffany

2.0

I have more conflicted emotions about this book than Scorpius Malfoy has towards his father.

I hated it. I also loved it. I was annoyed by it, then enchanted, then annoyed again. It didn't make any sense, yet I'd probably sell a kidney to see this play live.

I think my biggest problem with this story was this: on stage, it must be amazing. The sets, costumes, special effects, and props look brilliant in my head. On the page, they fall a little flat, though. This was intended as a play, and you should watch it as a play. You needn't bother read it.

PLOT: 1 / 5

God, I hated this plot so much. I actually think My immortal may have made more sense than whatever the fuck this was. Traveling back in time multiple times to revisit events we've already witnessed in order to stop Voldemort from regaining his power? Yawn. Recycling is good, kids, but keep that relevant to your garbage, not your story lines.

I mean, it's like no one even put any effort into this plot whatsoever. It was just a lame retelling of everything we've already seen, except filled with tons of plot holes and a weird Voldemort-Bellatrix hybrid child. Talk about uncomfortable.

The one star in this category is reserved solely for Draco Malfoy's redemption arc. We stan a self-improving pony-tailed bitch.

CHARACTERS: 3 / 5

Man, this category is tough. Of course, as someone who started reading the Potter-series aged eleven, revisiting all these beloved characters made me super nostalgic. What's more - we even got to see the much speculated about second generation!

Except, you know, J. K. Rowling kind of forgot that Hugo Granger-Weasley was a thing, or that Teddy Lupin existed. Like, where the heck were they?

The characters we did get were a bit of a rollercoaster. I was head-over-heels in love with SCORPIUS MALFOY and ALBUS POTTER (regardless of his dumbass name.)
