The Swarm by Frank Schätzing

3.0

I highly recommend you read this book now. Because you'll have no choice but to find it eerily relevant given the current state of the Gulf of Mexico, and given recent news items involving whales and other sea creatures behaving oddly.

Also, it's a good story.

I only have two complaints about it. First, It's about 200 pages too long. There are only a few sections I felt I had to slog through one word at a time, but it still could have benefited from some tightening up. Ok, a lot of tightening up.

Second, it's a terrible ending. Not plot-wise, but writing-wise. It's like Schätzing fell pray to a crippling insecurity that his readers wouldn't get his point. So he took out his frying pan, shined it up, and banged us all over the head with it for page after page.

So read this book, and expect to raise an eyebrow at the end.
