Days of Utter Dread by Graham Masterton
1.75
1.75 average I guess. idk who gave this man the title of master of horror, but maybe take it back.
1. Stranglehold, (co-written with Dawn G. Harris): A belt is delivered to a charity shop by a woman victimized by her uncle. Very predictable. Nothing exciting. TW: SA, rape, violence 2/5
2. Half-Sick of Shadows: Jimmy spends his free time spying on his apartment neighbors from his window. Disgusting description of women with nothing horror related except the thought of a gross little man sexualizing a woman in her own home. Too real honestly. 0/5
3. On Gracious Pond: I haven’t read The Walrus and the Carpenter by Lewis Carrol. I’m confused. Would be better if it didn’t grossly depict rape of children. TW: child abuse, rape, murder 3.5/5
4. National Balance: A husband hunts for his wife who has been erased from existence to maintain population equilibrium. This one was fine. A bit boring with a sad ending. 2.5/5
5. Cutting the Mustard: Pedophile librarian Terrance Colman gets his comeuppance. Once more we have a scene of child rape, but it wasn’t too much in this case. Wish there was more to the story besides him just dying. TW: child abuse, rape. 1.5/5
6. Portrait of Kasia: A couple connects in dreams and the wife is in an abusive marriage. Wasn’t really horror, just violent. TW: DV. 1.5/5
7. The Greatest Gift: Young couple gets in an accident, and the man is severely burnt. He attempts to break up with the girl, but she has different ideas. Gruesome, graphic, and I almost didn’t make it through. Tragic. 4/5
8. Epiphany: The main character visits an explicit art gallery and brings home a ghost man. The story of the ghost man is definitely gross, but the actual horror elements were to be expected. 1.5/5
9. The Red Butcher of Wroclaw: A film crew in Wroclaw is stranded in a bar with an angry spirit. Except not really and it was very lame. 0.5/5
10. Cheeseboy: Aidan lives in poverty and is bullied for it. Sad. 2.25/5
