This book is absolutely devastating, brilliantly blunt and thorough about the slow unravelling of grief. I do worry that the use of so much Islamophobic language is just giving airtime to hatred, and I understand that "racist language tells you that this character is racist and bad" but I think there are cleverer ways of doing it.
I also think it's quite condescending to have Sunya take off her hijab for James. That's not how that works.
