sarabearian 's review for:
On a Sunbeam
by Tillie Walden
On a Sunbeam truly is one of a kind.
The visuals, color schemes, and character dynamics are all visually stunning. The author carefully picks out colors that complement each other, with seamless transitions between panels. Genuinely a treat for the artistic soul.
This graphic novel will have you gasping in shock at reveals, crying at the conflicts, and eager to flip onto the next page. The novel covers LGBTQ+ themes of regret and forgiveness, family, and friendship, and most of all, romance with minor depictions of violence. Otherwise, this lesbian focused romance has captured my heart with its sci-fi worldbuilding of mythical creatures and architecture, at a 20-chapter pacing.
I highly recommend such a book for those sci-fi fans that wish for LGBTQ+ content, or even those exploring the community in the first place.
If you have not yet checked out the other works of author Tillie Walden, I recommend that as well. If you cannot access a physical copy, she has listed a free version online on her personal store: https://www.onasunbeam.com/.
Did I mention it was free?
Also, Walden has written some other amazing graphic novels, such as a close favorite of mine, Spinning. Overall, On a Sunbeam is an absolute must-read! -Lilia Z., SPL Teen Volunteer
