Don't Cry for Me by Daniel Black
3.0

“Hurt is worse than anger, you know. Anger dwells in the head, then fades. Hurt lingers in the soul. It rearranges your feelings without your permission. It blinds you.”

I wanted to love this one. The premise and the author’s note primed me to expect a great novel. It was good, but the writing often felt forced and simplistic. The book is one long letter from a father to his estranged son, so perhaps the simplicity was meant to reflect the way this particular father would write. As a reader, it ended up feeling contrived.
