Building a Second Brain: A Proven Method to Organize Your Digital Life and Unlock Your Creative Potential by Tiago Forte

4.0

I'm surprised by how similar my method of note-taking and organizing is to the practices described in this book. I currently use Obsidian and have a commonplace folder for catching all things and folders for different projects I work on. While a process similar to mine, I still found new ways to iterate on my system and improve!

A significant struggle I seem to be stuck in and have been stressing over is how to tag and logically organize notes, and it never once occurred to me that my folders and search are all I need. I don't need tags or backlinks when I first take a note; if I'm not sure what to tag something at this time, I can fall back on the search feature of Obsidian. Later if I come across this note and need it for a project, I can tag it. Struggle solved, no more stress! It seems like common sense, but it's easy to get obsessed with the features of tools.

Another thing, I enjoyed seeing the author's process of working through projects, from brainstorming, to searching notes, to editing; defining a straightforward process of managing projects reminded me a lot of [b:Algorithms to Live By: The Computer Science of Human Decisions|25666050|Algorithms to Live By The Computer Science of Human Decisions|Brian Christian|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1454296875l/25666050._SY75_.jpg|45489188]. It made me revisit my process, and while similar, I still got a few new things to try to iterate and improve upon!

This is worth reading! Especially if you don't have a practice of taking notes of things that inspire you, or things that may be useful in the future. Getting things out of your head is freeing!
