Forget Me Not
by Julie Soto
I really enjoyed the Julie Soto books I’ve read so far, but I’d say this one wasn’t my favorite because I really didn’t like the FMC. I usually like flashback storylines but every time the author went backwards 3 years through Elliot’s POV I was waiting to find out when they started to actually date and what happened to them. 65% into the book and I still didn’t know why they aren’t on speaking terms or when they truly started to date (and not just hook up). The author does so well writing the angst and tension; I’m just waiting for the storyline to catch up. Maybe because it’s an audiobook and it’s hard to remember the chapter flashbacks but having it be “3 years, one week and 6 days ago” made me roll my eyes. And wonder if I’m supposed to remember what month the flashback before was??
Another rant is the FMC. I personally thought she was a shitty person. The way she would string Elliot along using sex and saying she doesn’t want a commitment but spending every day with him is pretty much making her into a fuck boy. She would rope him into doing extra work for her and be consumed by her business, which fine I get she is young going out on her own. But she played with Elliot’s emotions by saying she wants to be exclusive but no commitment… anyone who makes you scared they’re going to dump you if you’re too vulnerable and open with your emotions isn’t worth it. I guess they figured it out in the end but she didn’t deserve him!
