His Compass by Con Riley
4.0

His Compass picks up a bit after the conclusion of His Horizon - Tom has been sailing with Jude’s replacements for the past season and is presented with a new contract to sea-test a new yacht, but it has to be with Nick, the worker who up and left him alone with the yacht. There’s some vague terms outlined in the contract, so it’s unsurprising that things aren’t exactly as Tom saw them from the beginning.

Tom has been working on yacht charters for more than 20 years, but he thinks his time is coming to an end because of some decisions he’s made for the greater good of the world, but not for the company. He loves what he does, but clearly wants to do more with his resources and abilities to take care of those in need around him. There’s just one person who dominates his thoughts while he’s out on the water and that’s Nick. Nick was Tom’s deckhand and left him in the middle of a trip after continually messing things up onboard the Aphrodite. He’s back and willing to learn from Tom how to work on a yacht during the sea-test, giving his all to make sure he’s doing things correctly and not letting Tom down again.

Despite their age difference, Tom and Nick seemed to really understand each other and made the other continually want to be better and do more to help. The way their relationship developed over time was unconventional, but it worked for them - they needed time to work through a lot of things. Tom’s high expectations of Nick helped him to succeed in ways he never imagined possible and Nick’s unwavering support of Tom’s life off the water helped him to open up and lean on someone for the first time in a long time. They both had secrets that came to light at less than opportune times, but seeing them work through them and get closer because of them was everything I wanted for them and more.

It definitely took me a while to get into this story, but once I did, I couldn’t put it down. I loved seeing Tom and Nick embrace Justin and advocate for the best for him together while also committing to strengthening their own relationship along the way. I can’t wait to see more from Mitch in the next book in the series!
